MUMBAI: From the next academic year, students who are unable to pass their
SSC and HSC exams will get an extra chance to reappear for their papers in May, the state education Minister Vinod Tawde announced on Monday. The October examination will not be discontinued.
To enable this change, results for the February-March exams will be declared by mid-May.
“Students who do not pass the February-March exams should be able to reappear for the papers by the end of May and get their results by June. If the board can discuss and make this decision, students will be able to save a year. Doing it this year, would mean a lot of hurry but we are working out the logistics,” said Tawde.
He added that other board such as ICSE and CBSE will not be affected by the move. “When the number of students who pass rises because of these exams, we shall consider increasing the number of seats in the college. So I do not think that the CBSE or ICSE students will be affected by this. If they think is it a good decision, they can implement it, too,” he added.
School principals welcomed the move. “Students have studied enough throughout the year. Hence, if they have to prepare once again in the next 15 days, they will get a chance to join college in the same year as their counterparts,” said Anjana Prakash, principal, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri.
Congratulating SSC students, the minister said, “The results have been extremely good. The number of students who have passed has increased since last year. Only 8% students have not been able to pass. Schools must provide career guidance and counselling to the students and they will find it easier to decide what path to choose in their lives,” he said.
